Since food is the language of love, make a romantic Virginia culinary adventure with a Root to Table dining experience. Celebrate the locally sourced harvest and enjoy fine dining outdoors on October 27 at Spring House Farm.
Romantic Virginia Culinary Adventure – a Taste of Blue Ridge
October is a wonderful time to be outdoors and celebrate the Fall harvest. And a Taste of Blue Ridge Root to Table experience is no ordinary “farm to fork” dinner. Talented chefs create and prepare a menu focusing on locally sourced ingredients. These chefs are passionate about where food comes from, so expect some lively conversation. Even the location of a Root to Table event, like Spring House Farm near Waterford, relates to the land and its bounty.
Spring House Farm, Your Root to Table Host
The Spring House Farm Fall Harvest Dinner takes place Sunday, October 27, 2-6:30pm. The farm is located on a mountain top, overlooking Loudoun County Wine Country. Dining will be outdoors, so you can enjoy the views with your meal. But there’s also a Plan B (tents) in case the weather turns. And because Spring House Farm is on top of a mountain, you might want to think twice about cruising out in a sports car. Think SUV.
Guests will start their culinary experience by the pond and enjoy raw oysters, drinks (cash bar), and yard games. Afterwards you’ll move up the hill for dinner and a main course featuring proteins from Spring House Farm. The meal concludes at sunset with a delicious plated dessert. You can find more menu details here.
During the dinner, you’ll get to meet Farmer/Owner Andrew Crush, and some family members as well. “The Progressive Farmer” voted Andrew as one of America’s Best Young Farmers and Ranchers. Learn more about Andrew and his family and why he and his wife started sustainable, ecologically friendly Spring House Farm.
Your Chefs for a Romantic Virginia Culinary Adventure
This Fall harvest culinary celebration will be prepared by four regionally renowned chefs. Taste of Blue Ridge Top Chef Erik Foxx-Nettnin of Magnolia’s at the Mill leads a lineup that also includes Guest Chefs Justin Garrison (owner of Justin Thyme Culinary), Britt Shyrene, and Marvin Swaner (Hilton Garden Inn Winchester). You can read more about each one on Taste of Blue Ridge.
Make it a Romantic Day in the Countryside
Because the weather is so beautiful this time of year, make it a Fall day in the country. Start your romantic adventure with a morning walk in the woods and get a jump start on burning the evening’s calories. Sky Meadows Virginia State Park, off Route 17 near Delaplane, is a good place to get in a hike. Open 8am to dusk, the park has 22 miles of hiking trails, 9 miles of bike trails, as well as Appalachian Trail access. Parking: $10.
From Sky Meadows, head north for about 30 minutes to Bluemont Vineyard. Stop by the tasting room for a glass of wine as well as the beautiful view. Or enjoy a hand crafted beer at nearby Dirt Farm Brewing.
It will take you about 40 minutes to get to Spring House Farm from Bluemont. And after dinner, don’t forget to make a stop at the Spring House Farm Store. It’s in Hamilton and open until 8pm.
Romantic Adventure Accommodations
Western Loudoun County has a wide selection of inns and AirBnB accommodations. Spring House Farm offers overnight stays with mountain and farm views while Bluemont Vineyard has two cottages. Both locations book through AirBnB.
Fire & Ice – The Ultimate Root to Table Culinary Experience
The 2019 Root to Table Series wraps up next month on November 30 with the Fire & Ice Gala at West Oaks Farm in Winchester. Over 15 chefs will participate in Virginia’s largest culinary celebration.
The fire on the menu comes from the main course – Barbacoa, Virginia Style. And the ice? You’ll see beautiful frosty creations carved before your eyes on the West Oaks terrace. Here you can admire the artwork as well as the view. There’s live bluegrass, along with specially crafted beer and whiskey as well as Virginia wines. If you love locally sourced ingredients and fine dining, put this Taste of Blue Ridge event on your calendar.
